Day 2 - Soreness can be glorious.

First off, Im enjoying coming up with cheesy titles, so if you dont like it... too bad.

So I just finished my second day of exercising. Today I am so sore its unbelievable.  I didnt think I would be able to exercise because I couldnt even lower myself into a sitting position.  I read online that some people said to not exercise when youre this sore but I did it anyway and was pleasently surprised.  After warming up and getting into the real workout I found that the soreness, though still there, wasnt as imparing as I thought it would be.  I also found that I was able to do more than I did yesterday, which is suprising since its only day 2.

This being said Im very excited about continuing this, no matter how much it hurts.

*also, for some reason the apostrophe button is not working, which explains the lack of them in my post. Sorry.

Day 1 - Getting my butt kicked, literally.

First, I’ll include some background information along with my measurements.

Age: 21/22 (Tomorrow’s my birthday)
Height: 5ft 4in.
Weight: 185lbs
Ideal weight: 130-140lbs
*Just wanted to say that I don’t plan on reaching this anytime soon or at all with this program, I just like to post it here to show myself where I should be according to BMI calculations.

Measurements @ Day 1:

Thigh(thickest part): 28
Hips(thickest part): 42
Stomach(at belly button): 44
Chest(bra line): 36
Upper arm(thickest area): 13

After the workout thoughts/discussion:

First of all, I’ve never worked out. I’ve been overweight basically since puberty.  I HATE exercising. I despise it. I don’t like hurting and I have horrible determination when it comes to putting myself through pain.  So this is a completely new thing for me.  I’m sick of being fat and not liking to show off my body, and feeling unattractive and unhealthy so that is why I’m beginning this. Hopefully it will lead to me exercising regularly for the rest of my life and having the healthy sexy body I’ve always wanted.  I’ve also asked for a Wii Fit for Christmas so I’m going to be coupling that with this program (assuming I get it).

I finished my first workout earlier before creating this blog. It kicked my butt.  I was sweating horribly and panting within 5 minutes, which gives you an idea of how out of shape I am.  I like how it’s set up though.  It keeps you moving and she focuses on working as many muscles as possible at the same time and you’re not allowed to stop for more than 5 minutes.  They way she delivers the workouts is with force and encouragement, just what I need. I need her to tell me “Don’t you dare stop!” and “You’re almost there keep up with it”.  I titled this “Getting my butt kicked, literally” because one of the exercises requires kicking your own butt. :)

Anyway, even though I can’t walk without wobbling right now, I’m excited to keep up with this and see the results.

Introduction

The reason for this blog is to give me a place to write down my progress of exercising using Jillian Michael’s DVD 30 Day Shred.  I have other DVD’s of hers but since I have basically never exercised in my life I started with this one because it’s a simple 25 minute workout and has 3 levels for advancement throughout the program.

Some background information on the DVD/Program:

It’s Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred DVD that I am using.  The idea is that you exercise for 30 days, throughout 3 different levels, going up a level every 10 days. Each 20 (it’s really more like 25 once you’re completely done and panting on the floor) minute workout contains:
  • One 2-minute warm-up
  • Three 6-minute circuits (3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio, 1 minute of abs)
  • One 2 minute cool-down

It states that you should move up in level every 10 days (since it’s a 30 day program) but I may not do that considering my being completely out of shape and overweight but we will see how I progress.

I’m also going to include my measurements at day 1, 15, and 30.  I’m going to do my best not to miss a day because I feel that if I do I’ll just skip every day.

So with that said, here we go!
